One of our main outings in York was visiting the Jorvik Viking Museum. It was walking distance away from our accommodation. Outside the museum people were dressed up in old viking age clothing and had knifes strapped to their belts.
The museum had three parts to it, the first part told us about archaeology and how they dug up the viking age artefacts. The museum had been slightly built on top of a dig sight for viking artefacts! This part had a glass floor which showed us a smaller model of what the dig sight would have looked like. We also learned about the tools that would have been used and how they clean the artefacts they find.
The next part was a ride through a re-creation of what a viking town might have looked like. We sat down on moving seats that would take us through the ride. As we went around the town little speakers told us what we were looking and gave us more information about the vikings. The town was complete with life sized models of viking who were going about their daily lives. We saw shopkeepers, travellers, fishers, a weaver, and even a man going to the toilet!
The last part of the museum had lots of artefacts from the vikings, we saw weapons, Jewellery, pottery, one sock and a frying pan. There was lots more too, we learnt about music from the viking times and saw what sort of instruments had been found. There were two skeletons that had been found and placed in a glass case. One of these skeletons had been used as inspiration for one of the models in part two because they had a hip problem.
And that was what we saw in the Viking Museum. We really liked the ride through the town so we doubled back and did it again! We had a really fun time and I enjoyed myself.

Yes, the same viking museum I saw with your Mum I think Rubes. A very interesting insight into some of the areas of history. It's always fascinating to see how people lived their lives isn't it?
