Sofia, Bulgaria’s capital

We spent one sweltering hot day exploring the city of Sofia named after saint Sophia of Rome.


Loads of EU money has been poured into the city and it's tree lined streets with shops and cafes and many parks make you feel like you could be in any Western European city. We visited a few museums, the most interesting being the socialist art museum to view propaganda during the soviet occupation of Bulgaria.


The regional history museum gave us a brief history of Bulgaria during its various periods; Roman, Greek, ottoman and Soviet.


Ice cream, beer and lemonade stops were a must to keep us going in the 40 degree heat!

Mila sent me some great photos about this day. Thanks Mila. The place looks stunning. Blown away by the statues. They are truly beautiful. I would imagine the war museum would be an eye opener. Looks like a great place all round.
