Salina Slanic Salt Mine.

A few days ago we visited a ginormous salt mine in Salina Slanic. To get into the mine we had to ride in a van for around fifteen minutes and we went 200 metres underground!

Since 1970 the mine has been a tourist attraction, and many visitors come for its supposed healing in the purity of the air. Salt had been extracted from the mine from 1943 - 1970. It had even taken five years just to prepare for the mining.

When we first entered the large mine I was amazed, I hadn't seen any pictures so I was unprepared for its size. The walls looked so smooth and every corner was cut in perfect angles! Little pieces of salt dotted the floor and you could pick some off the walls too. It was very cold down there, but a nice change from the baking heat above ground. We stayed in the mine for around an hour and took pictures, admired the beauty and learnt about the mine itself.

I had a really nice time, the mine was unexpected and stunning! It was a great stop on our way to Brasov and everyone enjoyed it.

My goodness, that is huge. Why is it not mined now? More lucrative as a tourist attraction maybe. Is it the lights that make it look colourful? Gosh, that would be a fascinating place. Just amazing.
