Rila Seven Lakes

A few days ago, we all went to the Rila Seven lakes in Bulgaria. This is a hike up and over several mountain ranges that loops around seven different lakes. When you get to the top there is an amazing view of all lakes!

The legend of the Rila Lakes tells the story of two mountain giants who make up the mountains there today. The place they lived in was beautiful and every creature wanted to live there. But one day, evil spirits passed and felt angry at the joy the two giants had. They attacked and the male giant fought to his death. Pleased by their actions, the evil spirits left, leaving the female giant devastated. As she cried, she created the seven lakes of Rila.

We started our walk in the morning and there were so many people there! As we walked along the path, there were lots of stops with great views for pictures. It was a rocky walk, out in the open and there was a lot of uphill.

After a few hours we made it to the top! We had an amazing view and took loads of photos. We could see all seven lakes and we were up higher than Mount Taranaki.

After this we walked the same way back, it was easier and faster this time because we were going down hill. It was a really nice walk and I had a great time! The lakes were so beautiful! The walk isn’t super long and we all had a really good time.

Thanks for your report on the seven lakes Rubes. Lucky you had a practice run up Taranaki Maunga. I am guessing your starting point was already at a fairly high altitude. Another adventure with great views.
