Have you ever heard of Sleeping Beauty's castle? Well, Walt Disney themed her castle from Ludwig the second’s castle in Bavaria.

The castle is called Neuschwanstein, and it’s in Germany. You have to go on a beautiful walk up a hill to get there, and once you get to the top you see an amazing castle with cliffs surrounding it.

Inside it is even more beautiful than the outside. Towering stone walls loomed over us, while carved windows made me eager to run in. Finally, as the clock dinged it was our turn.

We walked up a set of stairs and made our way through a hall. At the end of the hall the people that worked there gave us English audio guides. The start was in a  painted room full of colourful patterns. Then we strode up the stairs again, to get to a bigger room that led to the royal throne room. The room was wonderfully painted, and because Ludwig died before the castle was finished, the throne wasn't ever installed.

After that we walked to his living room, which had more paintings. The paintings were of scenes with people in gardens and palaces and in battles. The audio guide told us that he liked the painting style of Venus. Ludwig didn’t actually live in the medieval time though, it was actually built in 1868, way after the medieval time.  He wanted to live in a real knight's castle and this was what it was themed on.

After the living room, was the singing room. But the weird thing about that, is no one ever performed in it. King Ludwig, who was named after a French king Louis, just liked to light the one hundred candles in the room and stare off in the distance.

There were also kitchens, and the royal bedroom. Sadly the royal bedroom was closed, but we got to see the workers repairing it.

Then we got to watch a multivision show to learn more about the castle. We loved pretending we were kings and queens, and exploring this magical castle.
