The Train Ride From Ella To Kandy

One of the must do activities in Sri Lanka is to take the train journey from Kandy to Ella, travelling past lush green tea plantations, mountains, jungles and valleys.

Unfortunately by the time we got around to organising tickets they were all sold out, so instead we drove to Nuwara Eliya and caught the 34 kilometre journey to Ella from there. Luckily, this was the best part of the journey.

During the first part of the trip we travelled through tea country so everything was a lush green. The train passed many of these vibrant tea plantations, and they made the perfect picturesque view.

We planned to spend our time on the train doing school work but instead we met a family from Sri Lanka who also had three children. We ended up talking, playing and drawing with them. Only the oldest daughter spoke some English but it didn’t matter, we all became fast friends anyway!
