Carcassone is a town with a medieval castle. It is inside a small walled city built 2500 years ago before the Roman Empire. There is a board game made just about Carcassone. Mum and I decided to go and explore the castle.

To get into the castle we had to walk across a drawbridge. The first thing we went to was the courtyard. Out one of the window we could see a gate made of iron which would have kept the enemies out. We went up the steps to the ramparts which go all the way around the castle.

We went through two turrets. One at the start and one at the end. There 31 watch towers. On one side of the castle we could see the old town and on the other we could see the vineyards.

The last thing we did was go to the museum which had roman artefacts. I loved the castle. My favourite part was the museum and the views as we walked all around the outside of the castle.
