When we were in Phuket, we visited the Big Buddha! It was amazing and we all learnt so much from this experience.
Big Buddha was opened in 2014 but the construction had started in 2004 after a horrible tsunami had hit and this Buddha was built as a simple of hope for the future. Big Buddha is 45 metres tall and spans 25 metres at the base, to get up to the Buddha, you have to walk up 99 steps because the number 9 is the most important number in Buddhism! The Big Buddha is made from concrete and is coated in Burmese white jade marble on the outside!
But before we could visit this amazing masterpiece, we had to hike up through the bush to get to it! There are any different ways that you can get up to the Buddha like driving your car, catching a Tuk Tuk or hiking up a very steep path. We took the last option and walked up the path for around an hour and a half, the sun was baking down on us though, and we were all sweating like crazy! We saw many strange things on the way there, some way weirder than others like a fish taking a stroll on the path, right in the middle of the bush! That was very strange and we didn't know what to think, sadly we witnessed the fishes death as it stoped wriggling around and lay still in the middle of the track.
When we finally got to the Big Buddha, we all knew that all that time in the baking sun was worth it! The Buddha was amazing, it was ginormous and looked incredible! I was so happy that we had walked too it. We all walked up the 99 stairs to the top and then looked at the view around us, you could see everything from up there! We soon went in side the Buddha to have a look around, inside there were more Buddhas (smaller ones) and many other statues like cats, monks and other cool things!
Luckily for us, we decided to take a tuk tuk for te ride home instead of walking all the way back, it was really hot by now and we all just wanted to get home and swim in the pool at our hotel. But we all had so much fun and i really enjoyed it!

Awesome fun guys! Mila I am so pleased you’ve found some delicious gluten free food, it can be tricky sometimes I know. Keep having heaps of fun and Merry Christmas to you all. Love Mrs Cooper ❤️
I think I would have taken a tik tok but you did extremely well to climb 99 steps in that heat. Sad for the fish though!
Well done getting up there. It is 10 metres taller than the buddha we saw in Hong Kong so I can only imagine how huge it is. Hope you all enjoyed your swim.
Wow - How amazing is the Buddha! I really enjoyed reading all about the history around it and your trek to it - thanks Ruby. Awesome photo too!
